This debuted last weekend at SacAnime Winter 2009. It won best construction: Intermediate division at the masquerade
So, here's the deets/faq: --the dress pattern was altered from a really ugly sleep-wear pajama robe thing --the base of the dress is microsuede --the fur is faux --the hair pieces are ceramic --the gloves were hand made --the shoes (which you can't see here) were hand made --The fur was all stitched on by hand. It took forever --the designs on the gloves, shoes, and bottom of the dress were all beaded by hand with seed beads. And this DID take forever. Thousands of beads. Four beads a minute. --The wig was a pain in the neck. If you're going to make a Yue cosplay, don't buy a base wig with bangs. LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES --the entire costume took about three months of fairly concentrated work --it wasn't really all that hot to wear in the convention. Every now and then I got a little hot-flashy, but other than that I never really had a problem --I carried around a totally bomb koi plushie my sister had made to go along with this costume the whole day (pictured in my links below). If you would like your own koi, would like to see what other rad plushies my sister has made, or would like your very own custom plushie, check out my sister's site at www.hugablezoo.com
I will be posting a few other pictures, but some details and such: beadwork close-up: [link] shots with koi: [link][link]
Special thanks to: -Sylvia, who is as kind as she is talented -My mother, who drove me around for litterally five hours in search for the perfect fabric for the base of the dress, and then put up with the dining room table being completely covered with sewing madness for three months --The sculpture teachers who allowed me to use their materials for my hair pieces --Katie Bair for her tutorials that saved my wig from being a horrific mess --My sister, of course, for her wonderful fish. don't forget! www.hugablezoo.com --this moccasin making tutorial: [link] --and ~Heavy-MetalAlchemist for taking the photo (though I must admit, I did some slight color adjustments, etc.)
Be sure to give my cosplay.com account a little look-see for more pictures! [link]
Check it out, yo. There is a white koi fish swimming in the background of this shot. How rad is that? You can't plan that out!
Easily the most incredible piece of costumery I've ever seen. Been a huge fan for ages, just found your DA! I can only hope my Zuko will look anywhere near as good!
